Celebrating Rose Day
Diving into the history of Children's Month, on June 1857, Reverend Dr. Charles Leonard held a celebration for children. It was called 'Rose Day' then 'Flower Sunday' and later renamed it "Children's Day". In 1925, during a World Conference on Child Convention in Geneva, countries around the globe started to embrace Children's Day as a National Holiday. Finally, on 2015, the late President Benigno Aquino III declared November as National Children's Month.
People often take advantage of children, because when you are young, they assume you know nothing. Many cases of child labor, child exploitation and child abuse have been splashed all over the news, these activities is basically stripping off the children's rights.According to the Presidential Decree No. 603 or the Child and Youth Welfare Code, there are 12 rights of children. Only a few know about these rights, so the best thing to do is to spread awareness of these rights, in this way, we can help in promoting children's rights.
Dr. Jose Rizal once said that the youth is the future of the nation. When they grow up, they will be the leaders of the nation, they are the key to a better generation. Our future does not depend on children, but rather it depends on the way we shape them.
