Imprinting History
The National Women's Month Celebration began with the commemoration of International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8th, a historical event that resulted from women's organizational activities in the early twentieth century. Between 1909 and 1911, working women in the United States organized under the National Women's Trade Union League and other organizations to protest poor salaries, a lack of protective legislation, and harsh working conditions.
As mentioned before, women's month is a way to commemorate the contributions of women in our society, after years of being mistreated and unrecognized.
In the Philippines, womanhood stands strong, with many impactful figures in the country like Hidilyn Diaz, who is the first Filipino athlete to win a gold Olympic medal.
Miriam Defensor-Santiago was dubbed as "Iron Lady of Asia" for shaping the way politics in the country are today. She is renowned for her intelligience, humor and most especially on politics.
Many women has contributed in certain fields, like science, literature, aviation, medicine, politics and more, we can say that these women has a huge impact on history and further continue to do so.
Celebrating Women's Month along with Women's Day is a sign of recognizing and respecting not only women's works but also women themselves. Women are the backbone of the world, without them, we wouldn't be where we are today.
